AVL and Greenlight Innovation Sign Agreement to Develop a Fuel Cell Testing System Product Line

Hannover, Germany: April 28, 2016 - Canada's Greenlight Innovation Corp., global leader in the supply of testing and manufacturing equipment for hydrogen fuel cells, electrolysers, batteries and energy storage systems, and AVL List GmbH, the world’s largest independent company for development, simulation and testing technology of powertrains for global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), announced at Hannover Messe, they are partnering in the development of a co-branded fuel cell system testing product line.

Driven by increasingly stringent emissions legislations, fuel cells will play a major role in the future. The planned test platform is an up-to-date solution for both heavy-duty and light-duty transportation fuel cell engine developers and automotive OEMs, and supports the automotive industry in developing the next-generation powertrain.

The test systems will interface with proven control software AVL PUMA Open 2™, AVL Team SUITE™ software products, simulation platforms as well as test hardware, such as regenerative load banks, e-motor dynos and environmental chambers. The new testing product line will be manufactured by Greenlight and sold by AVL and its affiliates around the world.

Combined Know-How for Tomorrow´s Powertrains

“The cooperation between AVL and Greenlight Innovation unites competences, especially in the areas of powertrain development, testing systems and fuel cells. This enables us to develop technologies for the testing of fuel cell powertrains, which will allow OEMs to meet future challenges”, said AVL CEO Helmut List.

“Greenlight has 25 years of experience in the fuel cell and hydrogen industry, AVL has more than 65 years in automotive powertrain development – by joining forces, we are offering best-in-class fuel cell system test products and services“, said Ross Bailey, CEO Greenlight Innovation. “When a company like AVL makes a commitment to automotive fuel cell powertrain test products this signals to the world, that fuel cell vehicles are be-coming a reality”, added Bailey.

Greenlight is the global leader in the supply of testing and manufacturing equipment for the hydrogen fuel cell, electrolyser, battery and energy storage markets. Greenlight's headquarters are in Burnaby, Canada, with sales and service offices in Europe and Asia.

AVL is the world’s largest independent company for the development, simulation and test engineering of powertrains (hybrid, combustion engines, transmissions, electric motors, batteries and software) for passenger cars, trucks and large engines. AVL has more than 8,050 employees all over the world. In 2015, sales revenues reached EUR 1.27 billion.
